Capital Habeas Unit Investigator

The office of the Federal Public Defender is now accepting applications for an Investigator position in the Capital Habeas Unit. This is a full-time position based in the Las Vegas office. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Applicants should have investigative experience in the criminal justice field and possess good interviewing and report writing skills. Other duties include gathering records; locating people, such as potential witnesses and experts; retrieving evidence, personal property and relevant paraphernalia; computer analysis; and photographing crime scenes and evidence. Experience conducting interviews on highly-sensitive and personal issues involving a client’s background and family to discover evidence that could mitigate a capital sentence is preferred. Applicants should have a working knowledge of the criminal justice system and a personality that allows them to deal with many different types of individuals. Computer literacy is a plus. Frequent travel is required.

A minimum of three years’ investigative experience or the equivalent is required. Possession of a related bachelor or associate degree is preferred. Must possess a valid driver’s license and auto insurance. Applicants must also possess the necessary initiative, ingenuity, resourcefulness, and judgment needed to perform the duties outlined. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
